Sunset Boulevard is an amazing film about nostalgia, old vs new set upon the back drop of golden-age Hollywood and Billy Wilder directs this film impeccably.
Everything from set design to the cinematography is perfection, the way the mansion looks to the, frankily quite sad, climatic scene.
The acting is fantastic, especially from Gloria Swanson, her performance is amazing and she really stole the show in this, which is ironic considering her characters aim in the film is to steal the show one more time. Another stand out in the film is the soundtrack, it’s like the cherry on top of an already delicious cake, it just makes this film just that little bit better.
For me, there’s an almost dream-like quality to this film, watching a film about the behind the scenes of the golden age of an industry I’m completely obsessed with, it just makes it feel slightly musing and really adds to the film for me.
