Chris’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is based on a short story by Haruki Murakami. If this was based on one of his novels it would have been three seasons of TV. No one can meander like Murakami, someone I like but I admit I'm not the biggest fan of, mainly because his longest books never really lead anywhere.
I liked this. But I think that's because the last act of this film speeds along much faster than the first two, so it's what sticks with me. Also this ends somewhere, which always gets points from me.
If the first 90 minutes had the obsession and the energy of the last hour, the whole movie would have been 100 minutes long, and possibly one of my all-time favorites.
