a bland and soulless interpretation of a beloved franchise, mortal kombat is so focused on setting up the future that it fails at making the audience care about the present. the film moves at a monotonous pace thanks to the insipid protagonist, cole young, and the writer’s insistence on trying to make him tantalizing.
really disappointed with this one. i love me some dumb but digestible trash, but mortal kombat is too restrained to be the kind of lovable schlock it was destined to be, which makes it a miserable experience.
