    The Mist

As a species we're fundamentally insane. Put more than two of us in a room, we pick sides and start dreaming up reasons to kill one another."

The Mist is Frank Darabont's third time adapting Stephen King's writing for film. The first being The Shawshank Redemption (1994), and the second being The Green Mile (1999). While this may not have had the same response or acclaim of the first two, it remains one of the strongest adaptations of King's horror…

"Poor 'fugees, after escaping the worst atrocities and finally making it to England, our government hunts them down like they're cockroaches"

A relentlessly grim yet hopeful film, it's amazing how prescient Children of Men was, and continues to be with every passing year.

Due to the collapse of society following infertility around the world, Britain has become a fascist police state. Armed police and soldiers are stationed at train stations and propaganda pieces are constantly being shown on screens in…

Michael Sheen absolutely smashes it in this biopic of Brian Clough's disastrous spell in charge of Leeds United.

James Bond marathon - Film #25

Not quite as good as Casino Royale and Skyfall, but a strong send off for Daniel Craig's bond. Some really great action set pieces and an emotional centrepiece help keep this one engaging. Definitely the most Roger Moore-esque of the newer Bonds with a surprising amount of jokes and light-hearted moments which seems a bit at odds with the emotional tone of this one.

Also absolutely love the theme song by Billie Eilish - one of my absolute favourite Bond themes and I'm really happy she got the Oscar for it.

Dune is a complete visual spectacle on the big screen complete with astounding sound design and an excellent score from Hans Zimmer. However, despite the expected technical excellence of a Villeneuve project, the film felt devoid of life and at times it was as dry as the surface of the desert planet Arrakis. Many people have heralded this as The Lord of the Rings of the sci-fi genre, and while there were times when I could agree with this sentiment,…

Mostly average with some interesting points scattered here and there. However, it's completely filled with unlikeable characters. Who are we supposed to be rooting for again? The visuals and score make this whole thing feel superficial and lacking depth. In addition, the presence of Rosamund Pike in the lead constantly reminds you that you could be watching a much better film in Gone Girl. Wouldn't recommend.
