Call of the Mild OR
The Grass Menagerie
Gorgeously shot but glacially paced, Lamb takes you deep into the Uncanny Valley and then leaves you for dead on the side of the road like a foundling or a washed up Icelandic pop star. This rumination on loss and grief struck a nasty chord with me, though it certainly won't be for everyone, not even within the A24 crowd. This features the smothering dread of the aged and exhausted, not the sudden chills and thrills of the young and restless. Cherish your loves and hold onto them tight, because everything breaks eventually.
