This probably got an extra half star just for being the first film I watched in theaters after almost 20 virtual TIFF screenings.
I both surprisingly don't care for The African Queen and also wish this was closer to The African Queen? The obvious problems here are that it has way more CGI bombast than it needs (could really stand to lose the supernatural villains entirely and scale down all the set pieces) and that Blunt and Johnson have truly no romantic chemistry at all (but good platonic chemistry!). There's already much better version of this that costs less and doesn't feel the need to force a romance, but alas, you can't make a studio movie that way today.
Jesse Plemons though... a whole star just for him alone.
