First of all, that opening scene is terrifying, so terrifying that Casey doesn't even care that the popcorn she is making is on fire. Leaving the popcorn burning during that phone call was a little detail that made sense for that scene.
This is a very well done and great movie, even beyond the slasher horror genre. Wes Craven took what he did with the Nightmare on Elm Street movies and turned it into something more. Not as meta as New Nightmare, but just enough to be terrifying even though you know what is going to happen.
Wes Craven as Fred the janitor in the Freddy sweatshirt was a nice touch. Also love the flashback to Dream Warriors with a TV kill.
