I feel like I'm finding tons of new things to appreciate with every Tarkovsky watch, especially with this one of Stalker. I was in a tough headspace at the time, and the thing that really spoke to me this time around was the movie's use of sound. Alright I know it looks bad...but remember ratings and opinions can change over time.
Oppenheimer does plenty of things well. For the most part it looks stunning. The panoramas of Los Alamos in particular show the capability of Nolan and crew to set the scene and tone expertly, also providing a nice contrast to the continuous extreme close-ups we get for a majority of the movie.
