Very unchallenging and initially I actively disliked a lot of the weird writing choices but it won me over enough in the end. It’s nice. One random thing that distracted me was how people in this town are way too reactive to music. During a concert near the end people were almost running around the auditorium with ecstasy. There was a middle aged woman in the background of one shot nodding rhythmically with a very grave expression like “holy shit. This is the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen” as high school kids sang a song. They were good to be fair!
Peele is great at making really simple things scary. The second act is the most horror and I liked it the best…a couple of really viscerally disturbing moments where I spiritually threw up. Both used the full frame imax ratio, both images and experiences I’ve never seen a movie make before. The fucking monkey really put me on edge…ehhhhg!!! The rodeo scene with Steven Yeun (killin it) was probably my favourite scene. Not sure how much I love the climax…
