An unconventional and terrific yakuza movie, it takes you along for the ride, hey look it's Fukasaku and Seijun Suzuki over there, let's thumb our noses at them! The scene where they're playing baseball in the street was amazing.

Everything you need for a good movie within: a woman in a bathing suit, a gun, a car chase, breathless filming of packs of dogs, a hi-tech cave and cameras, recreations of famous paintings and the best improv street scenes and landscapes this side of Pasolini. Now I just want to only watch Feuillade and maybe some Edgar Ulmer or Harald Reinl

Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull's History Lesson

Buffalo Bill self-mythologizes himself but is somehow a lot like Richard Nixon in Secret Honor?

The way the camera treats the landscape/land art/architecture as important and the perspectives of where the human figures are in relation to the scarred landscape mirror their own alienation and displacement. They're stuck in limbo. It's never committed to any one branch of the narrative tree. It could be a surrealist drama, or a documentary, or a dualistic political allegory with karaoke, but it eludes easy categorization. The industrial themes and scale remind me of Don Delillo's Underworld. A 21st century digital classic.
