Dial M for Murder

Dial M for Murder ★★★★

"Dial M for Murder" creates a lot of suspense with only a few locations and dialogue-heavy writing, and it's another example of Alfred Hitchcock's command of his craft. The film is very detailed in telling the murderous plan of Tony to hire someone to kill his wife who has an affair. The intimidatingly composed Tony, brilliantly portrayed by Ray Milland, is actually quite cunning, and it seemed like most of his attempts to outsmart people are working. But he is certainly devious, and his lack of concern for his wife Margot is appalling. It is exhilarating how the events unfolded, and even if the film does feel a bit stagey and lacking in scope, it is precise, tight, and thoroughly engrossing.
