Wild at Heart

Wild at Heart ★½

Film Club #6

As with all of David Lynch's works, this is a type of niche film that requires a particular personality to get hooked by its bizarre tendencies. A runaway lovers plot reminiscent of those of Bonnie and Clyde and Terrence Malick's Badlands gets trapped in a cyclone of over-the-top hysterics, campy fantasy, violence, and sex that does not quite stick the landing all the time. Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern's performances managed to be oddly entertaining though, but only when the film attempts to recuperate itself from being lost in the unconventionality of its approach.
