Burning ★★★★½

This movie...

By far one of the most beautifully shot films I've seen in 2018. There's a delicacy in the way Chang Dong composes each frame, and it results in a truly remarkable feel throughout the film.

The plot... Oh man where to begin. From Haemins early pantomime scene, I was constantly on the lookout for clues as to what was actually going, or if the film was trying to trick me. For a long stretch that was a nuisance in my experince of the film, but when we arrived at the final third, I was engrossed in all of BURNING's weirdness and ambiguity, and whole heartedly loved it.

I'm still thinking about it, what actually happened and I'm sure I haven't figured it out yet. That could both work for and against the overall experince of the film, but to me, in this case, it is the mark of masterful control of narrative that makes this a film worth watching again and again and again.
