The Worst Person in the World

The soundtrack was distractingly good. I knew i was in for a good time when I heard Bad Feeling by Cobra Man blast in over the prolog. Bangers continued to flow in until the end credits.

On the topic of distracting, someone behind me to my left was crinkling a candy wrapper literally non-stop for at least the first 20 minutes of the film and made it really hard to be immersed in what was in front of me. Also, some dude behind me brought an entire bag of Werthers Originals and had to unwrap each individual candy before putting it in his mouth. Thankfully he was quiet about it and only did it a handful of times.

The acting is A-Grade here. No surprise Renate Reinsve took home the prize for acting at Cannes this year. Anders Danielsen Lie acts himself under the table against his other role in the festival. Wow. His monologue at the end brought me to tears. Really highlights what husks the characters were in Bergman Island.

Loved the structure. Loved the brief departures into surrealism. Loved the discussion about art on the radio show. There are so many layers to this film that can be interpreted in many ways, including which character the title is actually referring to.

I hope to never reach a point where I find myself worshipping the past. I don't want to give up. I don't want to lose the ability to look forward. I want to live and be free and be myself.

What a film.
