The Holy Mountain

The Holy Mountain ★★★★½

“You are excrement. You can change yourself into gold.”

Best: Direction (excellent camerawork/movement), cinematography (terrific shot composition, vibrant), production design (excellent colors, abstract), writing (fittingly cryptic dialogue, well-realized themes and commentary), score (atmospheric, great composition), imagery (unnerving, great effects work, truly unique), editing, story (wholly original, great structure, endlessly fascinating, amazing ending)
Worst: Some narration (mostly expository dialogue)
Notable Bit: Before filming began, director Alejandro Jodorowsky spent a week without sleep under a Zen Master's direction and lived communally with the film's cast for a month.
