Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home ★★★½

As someone who really liked Homecoming, I found this movie lacking the charm its predecessor had.

Super fast pacing, underwhelming action sequences with lots of explosions and cuts, and not enough character moments and real stakes. The cgi on the elementals was kind of meh. Also the humor didn't land as well as the first film, the audience in my theater was mostly quiet during the movie. I almost felt like I was watching a Michael Bay movie if I'm being honest.

One thing that I really liked about the first movie is the high school elements. In this movie there're still a fair amount of them but felt like being pushed aside quite a bit and was no longer the center of the story.

I liked Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, but not as much as I wanted to. He didn't have a lot of things to do in this movie other than yelling all the time. The reason behind his actions was not very convincing and felt like something we've seen a hundred times before. Also if you've already known Mysterio's real identity in the comics, then there won't be any major surprise for you watching this movie(except perhaps the mid credit scene, that one was good tho).

In the end I really wanted to like this movie more but honestly it's a step down from the first movie. I left the theater feeling... nothing.
