Zayβs review published on Letterboxd:
Robert Egger's 2nd film is an intense tale of seclusion, sirens, smashed seagulls, screeching, surreal sea sex fantasies, and two men slowly going insane...
I'm not the biggest fan of Egger's first film The VVitch(watched it 4 times and I'm still not sure if I actually like it π€) but I did appreciate certain things like the sound design and the folklorian aesthetic.
However I did thoroughly enjoy The Lighthouse! The black n white palette made the bleakness more palpable. The knitted sweaters and unkempt beards gave it an oldschool feel. Dafoe and Pattinson really were outstanding. Top notch performances from both men!
The Lighthouse is a slow burn that steadily builds n builds. Never a dull moment.
