    Burton clearly a loyal devotee of that Spielberg/Lucas style of action where some two dimensional goon flaunts his elaborate gymnastics or a goofy weapon for way too long only to be obliterated by a swift kick in the chest or some such nonsense from Batman.. it’s funny the first time but 2 hours in it’s like agdjshsks girl did you forget you did that one already.

    Keaton is such a stodgy, humourless vigilante opposite Basinger’s cardboard damsel in constanttt distress…

    Am just head over heels in love with the camp and the fantastic dialogue just this side of self aware and these women with their ridiculously tight outfits and gaudy innuendos... no matter how unintentional, the feminist undertones loom as large as these women in the frame with male counterparts who more than pale in comparison, weak…

    Still smacks of violent xenophobia but that ending is just ridiculously good.. can't physically bring myself to rate below 3 stars. Also can't decide whether Coppola's compositions are skilled enough to evoke such warmth in the landscape or if Japan is simply that gorgeous all by itself... am leaning towards the latter. Makes me wish she'd channelled all those efforts towards some sort of travelogue instead of these layers upon layers of racism and 'boo hoo I'm getting paid 2 million to do whiskey ads in a foreign country' trite nonsense.. errrr ya win some ya lose some...
