Sorry to Bother You ★★★★

“What the fuck isn't slave labor?”

It would be absurd to claim that Sorry to Bother You is the least bit subtle in its dystopian portrait of hyper-late stage capitalism, but that lack of subtlety is truly the strength of the film. The way in which the film sucks LaKeith Stanfield into a mad world is almost Gilliam-esque and that kind of crazy journey may not be a unique idea, but the hyper-kinetic energy of the film elevates it all. While at the same time, the more straight characters in this film has enough pathos to work as well, so whilst I can understand the critique that the film goes batshit crazy, I think the scenes follow a logical increase of madness and never stops being a sad character-portrait of someone destroyed by capitalism.
