The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse ★★★★½

always in the mood to rewatch movies. Today’s revisit was The Lighthouse with my brother. Man this film is one of 2019’s bests, which is amazing to say as 2019 had so many good films. Robert Eggers retells the classic Greek tale of Prometheus with a narrative which is clouded in mist and seafarer mythology. The filmmaking is what makes this my favorite horror film of the last decade (though I haven’t seen many). Eggers makes every scene feel claustrophobic and tiring, placing every image so close to each other and refusing to illuminate most frames. The editing in The Lighthouse completely dismantles time. Constant references to the clock implies that time is only a concept. The whole film feels like a montage of scenes that were cut, scrambled and pasted back together. skin
