Great to revisit this as an adult. I very vividly recalled the convention scene where the witches reveal themselves, but a lot of the rest of the film was new again for me. I had completely forgotten that Rowan Atkinson was in this, for example.
My daughter cried and was quite disturbed by the whole mouse transformation, but by the end of the film she was laughing and calling it funny. I think that's the key to Roald Dahl: he frightens the dickens out of you, but he always provides a space for cathartic laughter.
Great tone throughout this film. Love the interesting camera angles that heighten the tension. The puppetry and animatronics are still pretty impressive too.
