It’s a Me, Dereko’s review published on Letterboxd:
Gonen Girl is just fantastic. Gillian Flynn's cleverly layered script, based on her own novel, constantly keeps the audience guessing while also building up the many layers of its characters and showcasing themes of love, regret, and judgement. David Fincher's expert direction perfectly fits this story. Just like Amy, Fincher's directing style is cold, calculated, and uncompromising, yet also manages to be hauntingly beautiful. The direction is wonderfully complemented by the phenomenal cinematography and editing, as well as the chilling score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Rosamund Pike gives a remarkably layered performance and I have never seen Ben Affleck act this convincingly before. All of the supporting cast is great too. Even Tyler Perry of all people gives a believable performance. Sure, the plot does requires a suspension of disbelief at points, but that isn’t enough to distract me from appreciating just how wonderfully made this film really is. If you're reading this review, I am recommending Gone Girl to you. I really loved it.
