sandro’s review published on Letterboxd:
delicately crafted and executed, really well done. such a calm and reflective tone, as well as the old man's character, is overlayed onto the situation the girl is in with her relationship. that reflection is apparent in not just the narrative, but the clear use of visual reflections, on car windows and even a television screen at one point. this narrative also. gives way to the camera becoming a still and quiet presence, letting us take in and interpret everything the characters say to each other like it was our own conversation. the sequence with akiko in the taxi at night in tokyo is a blissful scene.
abbas kiarostami has really interested me as a filmmaker after watching this, i'll probably have to check out close-up sometime soon.
