As a Child Of The X-Files, this was wildly up my alley — moments reminiscent of a Jacques Tati take on a paranoid thriller, plot points almost refracted through Gordon Willis’s shadowy lens to abstraction. A common refrain since I’ve been catching up with classics, but I can’t believe I had never seen this before. (The new Criterion Blu-ray is gorgeous.)

It's fine, has some good gags, the animation is neat, and yeah, it has too much human stuff, but RELAX

About as good as movies get. McDormand coming for that third Oscar. Chloe Zhao for president. Seriously. It’s that great. A masterpiece and exactly what you might hope the director of The Rider would make next.

Screened virtually with TIFF ‘20 — film #13

Highest rating, if only because the experience of watching it was so agonizingly tense, when I finally relaxed at its conclusion I felt physically ill. So yeah, it's super awesome.
