YI JIAN’s review published on Letterboxd:
Unanesthetized mutilation of the mind, suffocation through diabolical chants, through unwavering tension, air pressure rising as we watch Caleb stumble deeper into the woods. The wilderness itself is the covenant of evil tormenting a family of six. The Witch recognizes the power of the ominous atmosphere it has conjured and utilizes it fully, unnerving us helpless observers and forcing us to succumb to its shadows. Final few minutes of the film is an explosive chemical reaction between pent-up fear + confusion -- obscured images acting as the catalyst, the sight of a bonfire as a form of release from this traumatic experience. Now I must go out for some fresh air.
