Our highlights from the 79th Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival kicks off cinema's peak season every September. Many hotly anticipated titles are celebrating their world premiere on the coast of Venice. And it's not just the stars and press who headed over to the Lido – a few members of the Yorck team were among the 2022 attendees as well.

Welcome back

Our cinemas are finally reopened as of July 1st, 2021. We're excited to welcome you back and eager to see what films you discover or rediscover in our cinemas.

Sustainability at Yorck: A Look Back, A Look Forward

No place on earth remains unaffected by climate change. Many films in our programming deal with the consequences for our planet and urge us to act. As art house cinemas, we have to consider our own environmental impact as well. In late 2019, a “sustainability task force” was formed to advance Yorck’s efforts in this field. We chat with Lucie Morvan, Yorck’s Head of Operations, and Marcel Danner, a member of the sustainability task force.

A cute film to wrap up my wonderful experiences exploring Berliner Kinos this past year. So much gratitude and appreciation for independent theaters all across Berlin. The In The Mood series hosted at Neues Off Kino has been one of my favorite ongoing curated series 🤩

Until next time ✍🏽

This was...hilarious? Like comedy of the year hilarious? I might be going insane but it's ridiculous in all the right ways. Kinda falls off a cliff *pause for laughter* but I was happy to be along for the bonkers ride.

Gotta separate the Tár from the Tártist.

well, there goes that dream.

I wish almost all period films were like this: not about any particular real events but rather an invented, simple story with the context, culture and language authentic to the time and place. Tackling familiar (and less familiar) historical events beat by beat leads most often to dull schlock, and for whatever reason, it is one of the most popular kind of movie and TV show right now. Though the general story here felt timeless and like it could be…

This film comes up slowly, beded in the wonderful colors and landscapes of Ireland. And grabs you at the latest after half time running in the neck and does not let go, even until a day past watching. Great acting by the entire cast. A candidate for a second visit to the cinema.
