The Ron’s review published on Letterboxd:
Blue Valentine is essentially a film about a relationship between Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams). It's the very realistic portrayal of a long troubled relationship that sets this film a part from others like it. It's almost too real at times because so many of the situations ring true and for a lot of us you get that feeling of I've been there. Both Gosling and Williams give top notch performances and in my opinion become the characters they play. You feel their joy, their pain, and their heartbreak. Reading this you may think well if I'm praising so many things about it why is it only a 3 1/2 star film for me? The answer is quite simple. Everything about this film is well done, directing, acting, cinematography, you name it, but it's the brutal honesty portrayed here that makes it a tough film to watch multiple times. That's is why I give it only 3 1/2 stars. This film is a must see in my opinion, but don't be surprised if you don't want to watch it again anytime soon.
