miranda sarah einy’s review published on Letterboxd:
yesterday, the morning after i watched portrait on wednesday, my coworkers told me i was glowing. today, when they said i came into work with that same glow, my coworkers guessed i’d be seeing portrait again. i carry this film with me, and through its impact, i feel touched and present and whole. this week itself has been simultaneously euphoric, intense, delicate and soft, in ways inspired by the exchanges of dialogue and the physicality of action so beautifully scripted and performed. i vocalized and acted on desires, admirations and remembrances, and continue to be instilled with an ever-growing value of time. i love céline’s generosity with her storytelling, expertise and passion, and i continue to take the time to process this film as a turning point in my life, and why i know and wholeheartedly feel that it’s brilliant cinema. portrait's multi-dimensional viewing experience, personal experience and professional experience has been quite a way to start the new year.
