Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home ★★★

Phase 4.4

Not as good as Homecoming, but it still delivers on the typical comedy beats, rampant destruction and the somewhat decent villains that Marvel are known for. But for me the biggest issue I have with this film, is in fact with Spidey himself.

Now I love Tom Holland and I think he is the best on screen Spiderman we have gotten; even if I prefer the Raimi films. He’s charming, fun and feels like a kid as does everyone around him such as Ned, Betty, MJ and Flash. But I’m not a big fan of the Iron Spidey suit as it both looks terrible and doesn’t feel like it belongs in the film at all. I also don’t like how they replace Uncle Ben with Tony Stark in these films as it takes away from the Spidey narrative. Like why can’t they have both.

It’s also great to see Mysterio, but I really hate how both villains in these films have been created by Tony’s actions, not Peter’s. It just takes away from his story as it feels like he is simply going around and solving all of Tony’s problems rather than dealing with his own.
