Life Is Sweet ★★★★

A family drama that, while comedic, feels very natural. Having just watched Days Of Being Wild, there's a link between Mike Leigh and Wong Kar-wai's pacing, the emphasis on characters pushing scenes without anything too gargantuan happening from the outside. The main difference is, Kar-wai floods the screen with atmosphere. As a result, Leigh is able to make more of an emotional impact here versus Kar-wai's 1990 film. The scene between Alison Steadman as Wendy and Jane Horrocks as Nicola really wrecked me. I love movies that swell with people who love each other yelling at one another :)
