I think I like this?? I really enjoy the cinematography, atmosphere and the natural, earthy dialogue between characters. But it feels like it never really does anything with its characters and vision. No one really changes and there is no real narrative to hold it all together. It can get a bit meandering and dull in some moments, but other moments are beautiful and compelling. It’s shot and directed pretty stellar for what it is, Zhao is definitely a name to keep an eye on. Kinda feels a bit like a documentary at times, especially with the melding of actors and actual nomads (which works most of the time). I really love the two conversations between Fern and the younger man, especially the Shakespeare scene. Overall a little mixed on this, but was definitely still worth the watch.
