Zoë Rose Bryant’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is a tricky one, and I’ve gone back and forth on my score quite a bit, but ultimately, I think Armageddon Time gets more right than it gets wrong, and above all else, I appreciate James Gray’s honesty and authenticity when looking back on his (and his family’s) complicity in perpetuating certain racial social struggles in the 80s. Some of the messaging is a bit muddled (or can be clumsily conveyed), and I don’t think I’m fit to fully speak on how “successful” the script is (Robert Daniels knocked his incisive analysis out of the park), but I valued the totality of Gray’s vision by the end, and making Anthony Hopkins’ poignant performance the heart of the film was a masterful choice that further elevated the emotional impact.
