Spring Breakers

Spring Breakers ★★★★★

Have never seen a Harmony Korine movie before, but I'm really, really impressed with the way he uses MTV sights, sounds, and grammar to tell an extremely haunting story about (literally) violent ennui - it might not actually have much to do with "spring break culture" (if there even is such a thing), fair enough, but it paints a very vivid picture of it nonetheless.

Korine shows an almost Friedkin-like commitment to keeping the audience on edge, with hypnotic chronological fracturing and those damn gun-sound effects. And Franco is brilliant as a kind of Kevin Federline/Max Cady hybrid.

Seeing this in a suburban theater full of teens was like watching Goldfinger at Fort Knox, and I can't imagine a better way to experience Spring Breakers.
