Mondo Cinema’s review published on Letterboxd:
What do you get when you combine such volatile ingredients as Regan era America, Toby Hooper, Bill Mosley, insane over the top gore, and add a possibly coked out of his mind Dennis Hopper, all brought to you by one of the most insane film studios of all time?
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is the pitch black horror comedy sequel to the iconic Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Director Toby Hooper (Life Force, Eaten Alive), realized there was no way to make a straight horror sequel to Chainsaw, and have it even remotely compare. So he goes the opposite direction and made a horror comedy, and one of the best horror sequels ever.
Chainsaw 2, almost right from the starting gate, is a manic, over the top, gore fest that never fails to hold your attention.
The Sawyer clan, (get it? ha ha) are now in the food truck business, killing people and serving them up as award winning chili.
Crazed Texas Marshal Dennis Hopper (Blue Velvet, Easy Rider) is on the hunt for revenge and radio DJ Caroline Williams, (The Legend of Billy Jean, Leprechaun 3) is caught in the middle.
Jim Siedow.... The only returning actor from the first film, Siedow owns this movie, with his goofy grin and bizarre line delivery.
Bill Mosley.... Bills over the top, simply amazing performance as Chop Top is iconic by this point.
The Gore effects of Tom Savini.... Savini never disappoints. He brings his A game for this one, the highlight being the guy getting the top of his head sawed off while driving.
Hopper could have been in this a little more. (All movies could use a little Dennis Hopper.)
Chainsaw 2 is a blast to watch, and there is good reason its one of my favorite horror flicks.
For more fun with chainsaws check out these movies. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 is the sequel that is not quite as good as part 2.
A Cut Above is the tale of two hookers that run afoul of a redneck with a saw. Pieces is a chainsaw killer flick that has to be seen to be believed.
