A crime comedy that jumps from broad to dry to surreal to slapstick. Some of its dismounts and landings are about as wobbly as Gosling's tipsy stagger, but there are genuinely good scenes propping it up. Speaking of Gosling: he has a career-defining comedy role inside of him trying to break out. This isn't it — he's still too cool to be a Keystone Cop, even with that moustache — but the raw materials are on display and ready to be mined.
